It is hard and also need large personnel labor to clean teeth for physically disabled patients who live with the aid of caregivers in nursing facilities or in-home caused by aging or congenital disease. The traditional clean way like tooth brush or water flosser may cause choke or possible risk of iatrogenic aspiration pneumonia since large amounts of water enter into the mouth of physically disabled patients especially those are bed-ridden.

Our tooth washing instrument was newly developed to facilitate the oral cavity cleaning of the disabled patients under automatic way with a silicone material inside the mouth and a marginal seal is formed where water is suctioned into an inhaler by negative pressure without experiencing water leakage on bed.

The silicone material inside our tooth washing instrument is composed by silicone which is much softer than brush, so there is less possibility of causative damage to the periodontal soft tissue.

After using the tooth washing instrument, the average plaque removal rate and standard deviation calculated using plaque index were around 70% for the tooth washing instrument

There are three strength levels in the cleaner to improve gum strength to avoid tooth extraction which can clean whole teeth and gum massage at the same time.

The tooth washing instrument can decrease personnel labor and labor intensity for caregivers doing oral hygiene care of bed-ridden or disabled patients under its automation system.
